Tafelwasser

Blogger's started to talk to me in German...

Hello everyone, from Berlin! The confusion (and German) capital of the world!

More specifically, hello from East Berlin! The depression (and graffiti) captial of the world!

We woke up this morning and took a walk through the neighbourhood thinking "God, this looks kind of dank and humourless. I wonder what's up with Berlin?"

Then we hopped on the Freebahn (more on that later) and popped out in West Berlin, where everything was clean and shiny but still pretty much humourless. Turns out there's not that much difference between the communism and capitalism after all. Just a layer of dirt. And a bridge.

Anyway, there were lots of big buildings and even bigger empty spaces called something-platz to make us feel small and confused, and a tour bus and a rotatey restaurant with surprisingly reasonable beer prices to make us feel poor and still a little confused.

So until tomorrow,

Guten Nacht,

John from Canada

TIP OF THE DAY: If you are ever in Germany and asked "Sprachen sie Englisch?" the correct cultural response is "a little" and a vaguely pissed off look.

hahaha where is all the cool stuff in berlin...I feel ripped off a little hahaha. Did you visit the square where Obama spoke? And if so did you feel the hope still lingering there from it?

as i was reading on the internet today, looking at some of the press about the michael jackson death, i found out that berlin is the location of his famous baby balcony dangling...SO there is one more cool thing you can go and see...and i know what you're thinking, wow, cool AND topical...and you know what? you're right.

Wish i could hear the rant, but iäm in Sveden, where even for paid wireless internet, the download speed precludes video, so i am using 7-11 sidewalk express machines ´very cheap, but without sound, and with funny keyboards which i havenät quite figured out yet, so pardon the strange våwel¤s

Stockholm is lovely + i was expecting more vikings, but everywhere is very ABBA and even the castle where i was staying is decorated äla ikea

Ask about the Rieperbahn / itäs where all the soldieräs used to go. have you done Brandenburg gate, etc?

tschuss from Sveden!
